Evidently the threat of the terrible underboob is not enough to keep the Palms from allowing burlesque to attack yet again!

Poker Stars and Movie Stars Shine at the PokerStars.net Burlesque Party to Celebrate the World Series of Poker at the PALMS famed nightclub RAIN. Dita Von Teese will perform her signature Martini Dance to celebrate PokerStars and its 2000 players at the 2008 World Series of Poker.

Wow, I'd really like to find out if they make her cover up; I mean, it's FOR a gambling tournament and I'm guessing they'll be serving spirits. It could be the end of days if she doesn't!

It should be interesting! She used to be a feature dancer, like a was, and when you do that you have to be able to adjust to all different county requirements. And she does corporate, where the requirements are different all the time. So she's probably accustomed to changes like that. Like you, I'm just wondering if the same rules will apply to this tournament that applied to us.

I saw George Michael in concert a few weeks ago, and when he sang "Feelin' Good," there was a video of Dita on the screen behind him. She was in pasties the whole time, but in the last shot she had her underboob covered as well. At the time I thought it was a fun MEW shout-out, but maybe it's part of a new costume?

How to Get Started as a Performer in Burlesque

Not all who want to perform want to become fulltime performers, but they'd like to get onstage now and then. I work in the field of what I call "Independent Burlesque," where most performers are creating individual acts that then get booked into variety or burlesque shows. People also sometimes hear about a theme for a show and then create an act based on that theme, or start producing a show for which they then create acts. There are as many different approaches as there are people to come up with them. Image courtesy of Skinnergy . When I was growing up in Atlanta, I saw the strip joint signs and old burlesque signs; I was also aware of Atlanta's burlesque star, Tami Roche. Because I started working the clubs in 1980, there were still some dancers who had done burlesque in the 50s and 60s around, some of them still dancing but most of them not interested in the full nude table dance format (and sometimes not so nice about us doing it), still working in the clubs as costumers or managers, wearing fabulous hair and nails and giving us great advice about showmanship and terrible advice about how to make money. I didn't get to meet Tami Roche but her name came up frequently as one of the last great tassel-twirlers. She appeared in Russ Meyer's Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens with Kitten Natividad (one of the most lovable and darling people ever born) And she appeared in Ann Corio's revival of This Was Burlesque in 1981.
